GUQO | Marie-Hélène Leblanc

Galerie UQO is a university gallery committed to the development and promotion of contemporary art and museum practices in Quebec, Canada and abroad, through research, creation, education and dissemination. It offers a space for research and experimentation, where theory, criticism and social commitment converge through artistic and curatorial innovation.

Since January 2019, Galerie UQO has been producing a podcast to accompany each exhibition to stimulate its audiences by using channels other than the exhibition and public programs. These podcasts are part of Galerie UQO's efforts to generate forms conducive to the production and dissemination of knowledge about contemporary art through the production of digital content. Series of podcasts have been developed in recent years to accompany collaborative projects such as "Seeking Openness" and "Surveying Culture".

The "La Galerie à l'école" series, produced in partnership with Marie-Hélène Frenette-Assad, aims to work with elementary, high school, college and university students to conduct an interview with a contemporary art artist from the Ottawa-Gatineau region. Students take part in the creation and production of a media message in the form of a podcast. The next series in production, "La Galerie chez les aîné.es", aims to democratize knowledge production by inviting artists to converse with local seniors in their living environment.

Since 2015, Marie-Hélène Leblanc has held the position of Director and Curator of Galerie UQO at the Université du Québec en Outaouais. Her curatorial practice has led her to produce over thirty projects presented in various exhibition structures in Quebec, Canada and Europe. She has held the positions of General Director of the artist-run center Espace Virtuel in Chicoutimi (now BANG) and Artistic Director of the DAÏMÕN production center in Gatineau. She has also taught visual arts at college and university. Marie-Hélène Leblanc is a PhD candidate in Arts Studies and Practices at the Université du Québec à Montréal. In 2018, she received the Prix relève from the Société des musées du Québec, and in 2013, she received the Bourse Jean-Claude Rochefort for curating contemporary art from the Fondation de l'UQAM. She has served on numerous boards, including as vice-president and then president of the Canadian Association of University and College Art Galleries (UCAGAC/ACGAUC) from 2017 to 2021, and is currently co-president of Culture Outaouais.
